Hi, folks.

Anybody remember a viim_tour? I was going through my old emails and found a message from LJ that my journal under that name had been deleted and purged, and I have no recollection of what it even was. Saved another alt account from purging, though, which is lucky.

*waves*

Several years late, I am reading Supernatural fic, though I haven't quite finished S7 yet. I have a Dean/Castiel problem. Please don't give me any more spoilers for S8; I've hit enough accidentally already. Criminal Minds, which I've been trying to keep up with, has gone all weird(er) this season. Still a huge fan of Sherlock. Would really like to watch Elementary, but don't know where to find it. Was unable to find any quantity of fic for Community that I was happy with, probably because I was looking for Jeff/Craig.

My beloved netbook finally crapped out, and I've switched to a Nexus, which I really like but am still getting used to. It's also inferior for tagging fic on delicious, which peeves me. I need to get a fandom dreamwidth account set up, also.

What's the state of your fandom?

Hey, does anyone out there know of anybody in the Atlanta area who's looking for childcare help? Or who could employ an English major?

I've been out of work since June. Any leads would be appreciated.

Crafty-ness, etc.

Sep. 27th, 2009 | 06:38 pm

My partner and I came out of the bookstore with the Yarn Harlot's Knitting Rules and This Will Kill You.

I think that stands alone pretty well.

I know I'd read about/ heard of the Yarn Harlot previously, but I'd never read any of her work before, and this one was making me laugh out loud in the bookstore, so the more instructional-looking one seemed like a decent bet.

I'm looking into moving towards some other types of string-based projects. I have conducted a brief crocheting experiment, which resulted in a small, teardrop-shaped ball that I have designated a cat toy. I *want* to make a ball of around two to three inches as the basis for an attempt at a fringe-nerd-reference toy. I don't know if I'm better off attempting to knit this or figuring out how to crochet it.

Anybody have good crochet references, for those just starting out? It's a really weird adjustment from knitting.

Also, I will be heading up to Virginia for a week as of tomorrow. Those of you in the vicinity, there will almost certainly be a side-excursion to Northern Virginia, if anybody wants to meet up. Sharkie? Umlautless?

I'mma wait a couple days, then switch this down to friends-locked, just fyi.

This will be a very strange Yom Kippur. May you all be inscribed.

The Man Who Saved a Billion Lives

Sep. 15th, 2009 | 09:22 am

Norman Borlaug died two days ago, at ninety-five. He literally, no hyperbole, saved more lives than anyone else in history. It is so fucked up that I can't find a good high-profile article about this. Almost as fucked up as how I barely know who he is-- if Penn and Teller hadn't brought him up, I wouldn't know at all. I've never run into any other acknowledgment of Borlaug's work that close to mainstream without searching for it specifically.

I should do some reading.
